Remodeling a windowless
basement always presents a formidable set of challenges, in this case
the ceiling height. For reasons of acoustics, the ceiling had to remain
flat and the trunk lines for the heat and the plumbing drain could not
be relocated.
The client also wanted tiers for the theater seating which raised the
floor. To deal with these restrictions, the ceiling was installed with
almost zero clearance under the heat ducts, the original concept of
three tiers had to be changed to two, and an L-shaped bar was situated
at one end of the basement to provide a sense of proportion.
