Our clients spoke of how they wanted us to transform their 1˝ story plain home into something magical. With ideas of combining rustic and found objects together with a clean modern feel, they discussed common struggles we hear a lot: a growing family without enough room to move, friends and family hanging out in too small a kitchen, and no great space to connect it all together. Then came the interesting artifacts: foreign coins, rustic wooden crates, and artifacts from a family barn that burned in a fire. Like going on an Easter egg hunt, they wanted the artifacts to be sprinkled into their home, bringing with it character, charm, and a unique sense of who they are, where they’d been, and what was important to them.

• We tore the roof off and relocated the master suite and a fourth bedroom into a new second floor, leaving new unutilized space on the main level to be repurposed for family and social interaction.

• Ample new windows and skylights combined with the elimination of nearly all the main level support walls, brought the outdoors in, and connected the spaces together visually and functionally.

• A new palette of materials was utilized, combining a clean, crisp collection of simple whites and grays to juxtapose the rustic found objects they brought to the table. Deftly using both throughout the addition and the remodeled house creates the sense of adventure, style, and unique feel they were looking for without going too far.
