Light is a critical issue
in any basement remodel.
The theme throughout basement remodels is to get as far away from the
appearance of a basement as possible. This job was no exception, and the
"wish list" included additional natural light, high ceilings, and large
open rooms. To accomodate these wishes, large sections of exterior brick
and framed walls were removed, and one 2 X 3 and two 3 X 4 windows
installed. It also required replacing a main load bearing wall with a
22’ long engineered steel I-beam to create an opening for natural light.
The owner says it best when he states..."the finish work matches the
quality and detail of my existing home. What was once a two story home
on a basement is now a full three story home that flows upward from the
terrace level." Mission accomplished!
