This
project opened up the kitchen and provided a level of ease and comfort
to every possible function. Since the space could not be expanded, the
solution was to create zones for each of the necessary functions. This
was done by adding a wall of cabinets housing the refrigerator, utility
sink and icemaker. The two-tiered island allows for a casual dining
experience the custom bench affords a cozy eat-in environment, and with
the allocation of these areas, the overall prep and cooking zones are
free to enjoy. This design recognizes that the today’s families are no
longer eating together in the dining room, but spending time together in
the kitchen, which has now become the heart of the home.
