This project began with
the need to repair a roof leak and turned into a great second floor
addition. Holding the addition to the original footprint of the house
would have created a long, narrow addition. To remedy this and free up a
bit more functional interior space, they cantilevered the addition about
a foot over the existing footprint. This small amount of space not only
provided a much more functional bathroom, but also matched an existing
cantilever detail found on the opposite end of the house, balancing the
front façade. The final project gives the clients a much-needed retreat
that is still within close proximity of their children and the other
bedrooms. As with all great additions, this one looks like it has always
been there, blending seamlessly with the existing home.
