2002 Best Bath Remodel Over $50,000
This project is the
master bath portion of a master suite remodel in a 1920’s home. During
the 80 year life of the home a great deal of settling had taken place.
Load bearing walls were placed mid span between and parallel to the
floor joist causing the hardwood floors to buckle, and making almost
every work area out of square and plumb. For the tub surround
construction they used steel stud framing and flexible track to ease the
construction of the radius area. Using a 6 foot dolly (I had one of
those when I was single) they hauled the 400 pound tub unit up two
flights of stairs. The radiant hot water heating element was located
behind the original tub which had to be addresses to accommodate the new
tub unit. To do this a marble grill was placed at the far side of the
tub surround and a fan motor with thermostat placed in a wood grill at
the opposite end of the surround thus circulating the air through the
surround. The client now has a comfortable master suite that satisfies
both function and visual interest. As a result of their success with
this project, they have been invited back to remodel more of the home.
