Fire severely damaged an
1830’s stone house. Not only was there damage to the original stone
structure, but also to its two additions. There was water damage and it
was exposed to the elements for many months before restoration began. We
strived to maintain authenticity whenever possible, restoring or
replicating many of the structural elements such as fireplaces and
spiral staircases. We also brought the structure up to meet current
building codes and upgraded its energy efficiency. Framing was re-built,
plaster was pulled from the interior stone walls and re-applied. Stone
was salvaged from an original chimney. Vertical plank tongue and groove
doors were used and a blacksmith was engaged to forge hardware for the
doors. The home is in better than previous condition with new wiring,
new duct system, new furnace, and air conditioning system, more
insulation, and double-paned windows.
