Thoughtful reconfiguration of interior spaces and structural repair
allowed the 54-year old residence to be sensitively updated and satisfy
the daily needs and functions of a 21st century family of four. Subtle
interior design details synthesize modern amenities while original
architectural details and energy efficiency improvements breath new life
into this impressive modernist structure.
The
scope of the renovation included updates throughout the entire home
(including the replacement of 111 windows and 14 doors) along with
adding a new glass-walled breezeway and the two-car garage. The
renovation plan maintained the integrity of the original design but also
addressed the homeowners’ request for program spaces such as a playroom,
exercise room and nanny suite. Additionally, the floating cantilevered
solaria were structurally repaired while leaving the design unchanged.
