The clients needed to do
something about their existing front portico that was in much need of
repair. They wanted a change, but they didn’t want to part with their
beautiful stamped concrete front walk, so we knew we had to stay within
the footprint of the existing foundation. Luckily the attractive brick
landing was in excellent condition and could be reused. The homeowners
have had an ongoing love affair with colonial period architecture and
wanted to bring the warmth and welcome of colonial times into their
suburban home. They wanted something unique that would add dimension to
their facade. They handed us a photograph taken of a vestibule on a
historic colonial home in the nearby borough that they had always
admired. it had all the elements they desired. We fashioned our version
after the original, but kept it proportional to the size and scale of
the existing home.
