This
project was a multi-faceted addition needing to accommodate the changing
physical needs of the clients, allowing them to stay in their home of 34
years during retirement and beyond. Principles of universal design and
aging in place were incorporated, but done in such a way as to be
inconspicuous. The kitchen and master bath were radically changed to
allow for the use of a motorized wheelchair, additionally, many updates
were done to bring the home from 1968 to the present, including
replacement windows, roofing and a new deck. The resulting space is
bright, functional and inviting.
