The project included
removal of a brick veneer and layers of creosote covered shingles. The
existing deck was removed and replaced with a new deck that spans the
entire lakeside of the home. In order to facilitate an unobstructed view
of the lake, stainless steel cable was used in place of wooden
balusters. The most definitive challenge was to remove an 18’ wall
facing the lake and replace it with custom windows. The challenge was to
create maximum view while maintaining structural integrity. In his
entry, Ernst described in detail how this was done, but all it did was
make me dizzy. He countersunk something, did a header into a T-formation
and perpendiculated his wind load. Just ask Ernst.
