An existing load bearing
wall divided this potentially large kitchen in a 1922 home. To solve the
space constraints, the bearing wall was removed and a header was
installed between the breakfast area and the kitchen to mirror the
home’s graceful curving arches. During demolition it was discovered that
the flat ceiling was a vaulted space which was then incorporated to
provide height as well as depth with maple beams and large skylights.
Finally a breakfast nook was created under the large existing windows
for meals and also a space for their small children to play.
