2013 Residential Universal Design
The
client’s parents’ health had been declining over the years, so he
decided to add a bedroom suite, complete with bathroom and walk-in
closet that would be designed to anticipate future accessibility needs.
Since the needed accessibility was in the future, it was important to
have the design appear as conventional as possible. By designing a front
and back porch, installing a removable front panel on the vanity and
using 36’ interior door units, we were able to design and build a
bedroom suite that matched the exterior of the client’s house, and
provided an interior that was wheelchair accessible, without being too
obvious.
