The client knew from the
beginning that this needed to be a green project. They did not wish to
add to the homes footprint, they wanted maximum energy efficiency, they
were concerned about healthy indoor air quality, and they wanted to use
technologies, materials and building techniques that did not adversely
affect the environment. Some of the specific techniques and practices
include:
90% of all waste throughout
the project was recycled, reused, or salvaged.
Every material used was researched to determine its environmental
impact. Materials used were:
New dual pane low-E fiberglass windows
Formaldehyde-free insulation
FSC certified lumber & cabinet materials, reclaimed hardwood & cork
flooring, low V.O.C. paint
Energy Star appliances were used throughout
The HVAC system was zoned for efficiency.
