This green remodeling
project began with the deconstruction of the kitchen. All cabinets,
countertops, plumbing fixtures and appliances were carefully removed and
donated to two needy families. Hardwood flooring was removed and stored
for later installation in the family's basement. All of the kitchen
windows and doors were replaced with Energy Star certified windows,
which allow passive solar heat retention in the natural stone flooring.
The kitchen and sunroom have green flooring from the joists up. To warm
the floors, Nuheat mats were placed from end to end and attached to one
of four programmable thermostats to create four independent zones. These
are only a few of the green products and techniques used in the project.
