The owners wanted to
restore the exterior of their 1850's Greek Revival/Transition style
house to its original design. The house and many of its period details
had previously been covered with asbestos siding, which first had to be
removed. Once the siding was removed, the original trim details could be
identified. Trim on similar houses on the street, old pictures, and a
survey from the Cambridge Historical Commission also helped in the
process. The home was then painted in an historical color scheme after
consultation with colorists from the Cambridge Historical Commission and
the owners. The addition of replacement windows in the past 20 years and
a modern aluminum gutter system required some creative measures when
bringing the exterior completely back into its original period.
