This traditional ranch
suffered from the space restraints typical of this type of structure.
The goal was to increase the interior space for dining and family
gatherings. a breakfast room with built-in hinged bench seating for
additional storage maximizes the space in this small area of the
addition. An open floor plan is achieved through large cased openings
between both the breakfast room and den into the kitchen. The vaulted
ceiling and floor level change provide generous headroom that was
previously lacking in the home. A unique visual element is a continuous
wooden ridge beam that runs from the interior through the exterior wall
to support the porch ceiling. Wrap-around windows in the breakfast nook
complete the organic transition from indoors to outdoors.
