2004 Best Room Addition Over
$100,000
Although the lovely
hillside location was one of the home’s most desirable features, it was
a structural challenge. One of the goals was to improve the view by
adding new transom windows, but to accommodate the addition of such a
large amount of glass, it was necessary to raise the ceiling to nine
feet. Specially constructed steel beams, customized foundation
reinforcements, and granite-clad steel columns were used to support the
raised ceiling in the new room. An eye-catching touch of luxury is the
family room’s new steel-reinforced fireplace with free-floating hearth.
