Historic Renovation
In 1930, a sleek, mid-century modern
home was designed for the Eveland family. Twenty-one years later, a
large addition of contrasting architectural style was built directly in
front, obscuring the original's elegance. Many decades later, a young
couple purchased the historic property and hired Mercedes to research
solutions for the mismatched buildings. After extensive analysis and
discussions, she persuaded them to remove the awkward 1950s addition and
restore the original mid-century design. The challenging restoration
produced a home perfectly sized for the couple and architecturally
consistent with the surrounding grand neighborhood.
