A beautiful Universal
Design, Aging in Place and Dementia-designed first-floor remodel enabled
two 90+ year-old family members with Alzheimer’s and dementia, who
wished to live together, the ability to do so safely and comfortably.
The designer created a wheelchair-accessible space plan, enhanced with a
new Powder Room and a spacious new Master Suite, both with
custom-designed wheelchair-accessible vanities. ADA-compliant materials,
fixtures, hardware, appliances and senior-friendly finishes, lighting
and colors were incorporated in the design, as were dementia-supportive
design elements. The elegant, yet contemporary design aesthetic pleased
the family and achieved an updated look for the 1980's home, increasing
its value.
