Great things come in
small packages. Such is the case with this modest 140 square foot
addition. Before the addition, the family room was not connected to the
kitchen. To get from one to the other, traffic flowed through a very
formal dining room, filled with prized family antiques. Lovely arches
were used in the oversized opening from the family room to the addition,
and then again from the addition to the kitchen. A warm yellow paint was
applied to the walls to tie into the color scheme in the rest of the
house, and to enhance the abundant natural light that pours in from the
large, double-hung windows on both sides of the “bump out”. Before the
addition, the kitchen and family room had a tendency to feel dark. It is
a double win to improve two rooms with one change. The large windows
bring enormous amounts of light into both rooms all day long. The
homeowners are thrilled with the results. While they plan to reside in
this home for a long time, they take additional comfort in the feeling
that they made a wise investment in the property.
