The client wanted to
renovate and modernize this 1972 split level home. It was a challenge to
open up the roofline with structural beams, but now the homeowner is
extremely happy with the open, vaulted tongue & groove cypress ceilings.
The renovation includes many significant sustainable features, including
spray foam insulation, new energy-efficient 13-SEER HVAC equipment,
Energy Star appliances, and double-pane Energy Star windows, skylights
and doors. The exterior features drought-resistant landscaping, and
recycled concrete and crushed stone was used where possible. The home is
finished with mid-century modern style, including vintage light fixtures
and a minimalist trim package.
