The homeowner dreamed of
having this small bungalow look as it did when it was built in 1920. He
envisioned a craftsman design with bright colors like so many of his
neighbors, and a traditional front porch to sit on in the evenings. All
the old siding and trim were removed and new house wrap installed.
Period style exterior window casings were installed and the Hardiplank
siding was installed with a shadow line similar to the old 105 siding
predominant in the area. The mason built traditional brick bases for the
porch posts and square tapered columns were added. A traditional stained
bead board ceiling was used on the front porch. The home was finished in
a three-color scheme chosen from a period color chart. They were able to
completely transform the street appeal of the home and topped it off
with a stained glass window in the front gable end and a craftsman style
front door.
