The existing bathroom was already
pretty small, with the sink and toilet on one wall and the bathtub and
linen closet on the other side, however, the owner really wanted a
shower in addition to the bathtub. The big move that allowed this to
happen was removing the linen closet, which created another space for
the toilet that was better hidden from view.
The next challenge was how to make the
tub and shower fit in a single wet area. They found a small tub (4’7” X
2’3’) and the deck of the tub integrated with the extra-wide curb. The
curb serves as a stepping platform, as well as helping to keep the water
from splashing into the open room-no cumbersome shower doors here!
In
initial conversations with eh designer, the word “spa” came up a lot, so
she naturally gravitated toward a neutral palette, with clean lines and
a nod to luxury. The work concluded with a fully functional bathroom
that was lighter, brighter, and many times more serene than the one that
had occupied the same footprint.
