The client had purchased
a one-story concrete block building in a small historic village. The
building had been vacant for several years and had fallen into such bad
condition that it needed to come down to its foundation. The owner
embarked on the project as a restoration that would enhance the
community as much as the original building. Through much community input
the building now enhances the neighborhood with its choice of materials,
color palette and scale. The community frequently holds special events
that include live music and dancing that can be enjoyed inside or
outside by opening the rear wall to an oversized covered porch. The
reconstruction of this building brings new life to its historic village
by creating a multi-purpose structure where a previously vacant shell
had become an eyesore. This former black sheep has evolved into a
building that gives back to its community in many ways.
