Because this kitchen is
located in the center of the house with a living room on one side and a
family room on the other, there were no windows and no natural light.
With only one two-light florescent fixture and dark cabinets, it had a
very closed-in feeling. To open up the space, two closets were removed,
and an 8' opening was created into the family room adding some natural
light. A soffit was built to ring the room and recessed lights were
installed there and above the floor space. Upper cabinets were removed
to maximize wall space, and the walls were painted a light cream to
reflect the lighting and create a more open feel. The result was a
beautiful kitchen allowing much more natural light and a design that
would impress any guest.
