The owners of this 1940’s
stone and wood house wanted to increase the size of several rooms and
remain in their neighborhood to enjoy the mature landscaping, varied
architectural styles, and convenient location. The garage was doubled in
size with new attic trusses for additional storage. The family room was
increased by about 300 square feet with skylights and cathedral ceiling.
A new balcony now overlooks the new family room from the second floor,
and a new dormer in the second floor increased space and tied it into
the family room addition. The family room successfully increased the
main gathering area, bringing natural light into the house, and provides
a lovely view into the wooded back yard. The additions, although nearly
600 square feet, do not appear out of scale with the existing house.
