The owner desired to
increase the functionality of this small kitchen without encroaching on
adjacent spaces. The kitchen is not located on an exterior wall, so the
clients wanted better lighting that would also complement their existing
artwork and color scheme. The opening between the refrigerator and the
peninsula was increased to facilitate access and base cabinet roll-outs,
a corner lazy Susan and a full depth slotted tray storage wall cabinet
above the refrigerator increased storage. New cherry cabinetry, hardwood
floors and granite countertops were installed to provide more
aesthetically pleasing surfaces. Recessed can lights, under-cabinet
lights and pendants provide much improved illumination for the kitchen.
A healthy dose of vibrant yellow paint at the backsplash areas gives
some additional "pop" to the kitchen and provides a great contrast with
the red tones in much of the art work and decor.
