• Using space behind the old wall allowed
us to build a shower measuring 6.5’ long by 3’ wide. With that much room
we were able to fully enclose the window within the shower, install a
17” wide bench seat and a wide custom glass shower door, build a large
niche, and install a Jaclo fixture suite with an adjustable, detachable
shower wand. The homeowner chose a Toto Guinevere one-piece low-flush
toilet.
• Honed marble floor tile was installed
along with polished bench and counter slabs. Marble was used sparingly
elsewhere in as a unifying trim element to punctuate the subway tile
wainscot.
• We incorporated window and door trim
details borrowed from the main floor to guide the cabinet and millwork
design.
• A tall vanity was built to maximize
drawer space and a deep storage cabinet above the toilet took advantage
of dead space in a hollow wall in that location.
• We installed closed-cell polyurethane
foam above the angled portion of the shower and in the exterior walls to
provide maximum comfort and energy savings. Electric in-floor heat was
installed under the marble floor.
• New lighting was
installed in five locations to brighten the room, including
under-cabinet lights under the storage cabinet.
