“Cave-like” describes the
atmosphere of this retired couple’s living room prior to its makeover.
Dark paneling and poor lighting combined with the small dimensions of
the space and an oddly placed wood-burning stove, made one feel somewhat
claustrophobic. The floor plan, dictated by the stove, was not
functional for relaxing and entertaining. Changes included dark walnut
flooring to complement the existing ceramic tile, custom built in
bookshelves and fireplace mantel (rich mahogany finish) and a built-in
vent-free fireplace with granite surround and hearth. Gold and blue
tones complimented the sand colored walls, and silk drapery panels
framed the window.
