The
owners were faced with an increasing demand for space and functionality
in their existing home, but did not want to leave the area they loved.
The decision was to do a full redesign and remodel, including their
guest home, exterior landscaping and pool area. To provide additional
space, and addition was designed to include a family room with
entertainment center, powder room and extra bedroom. The adjoining
kitchen was opened up through the removal of load bearing and
partitioning walls that had restricted access. It was reconfigured to
allow multiple cooks in the kitchen. Cabinet space was nearly tripled
and the refrigerator and freeze capacities were nearly doubled. On the
outside, the entire exterior was updated with a new roof, stucco siding
and stacked stone. A “sports court” area with room for both basketball
and tennis was built in the center of the yard. The guest house was
converted from a one bedroom and office combination to a two bedroom,
two bathroom with a kitchen and living area, game room and master suite.
The guest house served as living quarters for the family during the
remodel of the main house.
