This
Universal Design project started as a remodel to improve bathroom safety
for an 87 year old woman experiencing frequent falls. In addition to
safety, the goals included creating a low-maintenance, cheerful, open,
airy space and improved lighting without relocating fixtures or
enlarging the bathroom. We designed a curbless shower covered with
slip-resistant wet room sheet flooring that also covers the entire
bathroom floor. The new bath includes a higher toilet with grab bars on
both sides and a sitting sink with retractable doors covering the
floorwell. The client and several generations of her family now enjoy
the new bathroom and shower.
