This “special feature” dual-sided fireplace and entertainment center renovation is both a functional and aesthetic winner. Originally, the client was in love with this home and its two-sided fireplace that opened to both the family and formal living areas. However, the installed pre-manufactured fire-box and mantels were undersized. We designed a double-sided Isokern fireplace with a curved top that was set into a stone, quartzite-ledge finished wall, which provided both visual and tactile texture. Most important, it also provided both an important anchor for the room’s furnishings. On the formal living room side, we redesigned the dated small mantle to fit into a more formal environment. On the family room side, we redesigned the built-in cabinets and the result is an entertainment center that looks like it was constructed with the original home.
