An outmoded 1970s
basement playroom became a 21st century high-end home theater in this
transformational renovation. The homeowners desired a luxury feel, with
great acoustics to protect the rest of the home from extraneous noise.
A highlight of this project was installation of a floating custom
staircase with premium tempered safety glass bolted to each stair tread,
requiring extreme craftsmanship. Theater-like soundproofing was achieved
using an acoustical fabric soundproofing system and quiet-barrier
membranes on the floor, ceiling, and walls. A floating LED light valance
and a full-wall Varia light box added attractive lighting for dramatic
effect.
