The clients envisioned
turning their 1980’s Wisconsin Log home into a modern, elegant lake
retreat by adding expanded living space and transforming an out-dated
kitchen and dining room into gracious areas that reflect eh standard of
lake properties in their area. The 3,500 square foot addition nearly
doubled the size of the home’s footprint. To establish an airy, flowing
atmosphere on the main level, a bearing wall was removed to create a
spacious kitchen with custom Birch cabinetry, granite surfaces and
gourmet appliances. To the foyer’s right, the addition opens to a
massive cultured stone fireplace in the great room. The original 1/2 log
siding was no longer manufactured, but the supplier replicated the
needed logs to dimension. Craftsmen hand scribed the saddle notches and
used drawknives to flatten the ends to match the original logs exactly.
The interior logs were also expertly matched. Cut fieldstone was added
to the existing home and the addition’s foundation to create a
complimentary visual line and unify both wings of the house.
