A salvaged heavy antique door lends gravitas and mystery to the ritual of entering a wine cellar. The new wine cellar is constructed entirely out of excess materials salvaged from various projects. Only the temperature control and cork flooring were purchased new. Cork flooring gives a visual pun in the context of wine bottles. Cork is also an emissions free material appropriate for a space with minimal fresh air. Reflective glass niches organize the cellar and provide an illusion of daylight in an otherwise windowless room. The clients are delighted to have ample storage for their collection displayed in a playful and resourcefully constructed space.
