Remodeling the kitchen of
a 50-year-old adobe home presents some inherent challenges. You need to
update the kitchen, without disturbing the original charm and southwest
character of the home, which, in this case, included a stainless steel
double sink that was 50 years old. Another challenge is the dust
involved in working with walls made out of mud, clay, and straw. In this
case, an additional challenge was to finish the job before the owner’s
son’s high school graduation party. To speed up the process, the couple
converted a guest bathroom into a temporary kitchen during the work.
Overall, when all the dust settled, the only original item remaining was
the double sink. "Of course they saved the double sinks," said the wife,
" I bathed my babies in those sinks."
