Susan Brunstrum and her team at Sweet
Peas Design completely renovated this 1920s home and carriage house in
an upscale Chicago suburb. They updated it for 21st-century living while
retaining the footprint and warmth of a vintage residence in this
historic Heritage Area.
Among the client’s goals: a larger master bath and kitchen, a pantry and
powder room, more space for entertaining, and as a former Californian
with a passion for the outdoors, she wanted to convert the original
attached carriage house into a three-season sun room for indoor-outdoor
living.
The results reflect Susan’s signature
LivableLuxe™
style, “the little black dress of interior design™. Comfortable yet refined, it is
layered, collected, rich in details and expertly edited. “We believe
that each home should tell the story of those who live there,” said
Susan.
Susan and her team
created the separation of
his-and-hers bathrooms in this single, luxurious space. With some
ingenious space planning and custom-designed elements, they replicated a
five-star hotel master bath for this high-powered couple who often get
ready at the same time, but didn’t want completely dual master
bathrooms. By eliminating the big soaking tub and utilizing wasted space
in the center of the room, Susan provided back-to-back sinks with tall
mirrors as a privacy fence, individual toilet compartments, his-and-hers
storage space and a car wash-sized shower.
