This project included the
addition of a lower ground floor with the addition of 1,067 square feet
of living space, including a new bedroom suite, family/media room,
workshop and laundry room. The home was lifted from the foundation in
order to build the new ground floor while leaving the house on the
property during the construction process. the house was built in 1899,
and while this was not considered a historical restoration, the owner’s
interest and research in the period of the California Victorian cottage
provided the design style for the finished product. The house was
brought up to code, and beyond, using new technologies for lighting,
heating and cooling. All the comforts of a twenty first century kitchen
and bath were added, with refreshed finish work and detailing worthy of
this Victorian treasure.
