This historic
renovation was a major undertaking. A very neglected
stone farmhouse, originally built in 1887, was
totally gutted and brought back to life. The charm of
the original structure was mostly attributed to the
large native stones formed the exterior walls. When
the roof was removed, the walls became unstable and
required massive bracing as the rafter system was
being built. Accurate details were researched by the
homeowner, who did the drawings for the custom made
oak exterior brackets from historical pictures. All
interior and exterior trim was reproduced to be
faithful to the post civil war era. This wonderful
homestead has been lovingly preserved for another
hundred years so that the next generation can share a
slice of prairie history.
