This
thoughtful renovation of a 1930s Decatur home supports aging in place
while accommodating visits from children and grandchildren. The design
includes a new primary suite, kitchen, family room, screened porch, and
restored front porch, with a new bedroom and bath upstairs and
reconfigured stairs for improved flow. Challenges included limited
buildable area due to a rear floodplain and the need to minimize the
visual impact of the second story from the street. Strategic design
solutions preserved
the home’s historic character while enhancing livability. The result is
a home that gracefully evolves with its owners—who are thrilled with the
outcome..
