2011 Green Remodeling Project
Some of
the key green elements of the remodel of this 1913 home are what was NOT
done. Rather than replace the roof, the original slate roof was
repaired. The aluminum siding that was removed was completely recycled.
The front porch was restored using reused lumber from the existing home.
All lumber used in the project was reclaimed from deconstructed homes.
Solar power lights were used in the staircase. The exterior retaining
wall was constructed using reclaimed bricks from the original street
found on the property. The concrete driveway slopped toward the house,
creating a water problem in the basement. Rather than replacing it, it
was cut back 18” from the house and a French drain installed.
