This addition was part of a larger renovation/addition. This addition at the rear of the home included a new primary suite at first floor, and an art studio suite at second. Both spaces were filled with natural light by adding strategically placed windows (that still maintain privacy). A major obstacle was a 150-year-old oak tree in poor health. The root system spanned into the crawlspace and was in the way of the new foundation. Digging up the root system without damaging the foundation was difficult. Another aspect was matching historic details, including unique rafter tails milled to match existing. |
