The homeowners wanted more light, more space, more storage...and more excitement. More light was added with two additional windows, a skylight and opening the kitchen ceiling to the clerestory windows in the old entry hall. More space was achieved by incorporating the entry hall into the kitchen footprint and by eliminating the peninsula and pantry closets. This additional space doubled the amount of storage. The excitement was supplied when the house had to be structurally supported in four areas in order to incorporate the entry hall into the kitchen. The wall separating the entry hall and kitchen was in the center of the house, and was bearing the load of four adjoining rooms.
