2003 Regional Award
Residential Historic
Renovation
This whole-house makeover
began as a historic front porch renovation for a nineteenth century
farmhouse. As increasing deterioration was discovered…and as the
client’s faith in the contractor increased, they were commissioned to
redesign the home to satisfy contemporary living patterns. The
photographs clearly show what a wonderful home this has become, so let
me relate the situation that Silent Rivers Design/Build had to deal
with: All decisions were made through family meetings. The daughter and
her husband who live in the home wanted a certain contemporary flavor,
while her parents who own the property, had their own distinct tastes.
The father, who is color blind, has a real passion for historic
atmosphere. The mother was quietly pragmatic, yet quite decisive and
tasteful. As a design-build team, they found it challenging to patiently
wait through the decision-making process, so a-typical of their past
experience.
