For this urban row-house
kitchen, the client asked for a contemporary loft-like space with easy
circulation and modern finishes. To achieve this, all partition walls at
the existing kitchen were removed, opening the new kitchen to the dining
room on one side and to the living room on the other. A large island
seats six and tapers to open the traffic flow to the living room. The
angle of the island is reinforced with a row of pendant lights above. A
full height stainless steel backsplash at the range wall defines the
kitchen work area. The cabinets extend into the living room space,
creating a sideboard with low, horizontal wall cabinets with frosted
glass awning doors. The fin wall cutting through the island is a
brightly colored sculptural element that screens the dining area and
		also satisfies mechanical/electrical requirements.
