Living in a one story
sprawling rambler with a concrete slab has its challenges. The house
lacked curb presence, flow, light, storage and parking. The owner’s
wanted a proper family room, dining room, more storage, a 3 car garage
and a more dramatic entry. To create the new family room, they relocated
the existing 1 1/2 car garage to a brand new structure next to the
house. The new garage was set at an angle to create a more formal
courtyard style arrival court. Included in the new garage is a second
floor in-law suite above, with a large storage room. To create a real
entry foyer, they designed an entry tower to focus the arrival of guests
and balance the house with the new, taller garage next door. The tower
creates a light filled space that is much more welcoming than before.
