With no basement,
and everyone living on one floor, this family needed more space. The
goals were to:
· Expand this one story home to
provide three bedrooms that would be separate from the communal living
space.
· Include a master suite with
expansive views.
· Create a kitchen that would be
multifunctional and a family gathering place.
· Retain the intent of the original
architecture so the house blends with the neighborhood.
· Preserve the green space around the
house.
It was determined
that to obtain the desired space and maintain the green space, the best
solution was to construct a second floor that included two bedrooms, a
hall bath, a separate laundry room and a master suite. The existing
first floor was reworked to include a wide open combination kitchen and
family room, two home offices, a guest room with bath and a more formal,
but open, living and dining room. A new stair and foyer tower was
constructed to join the spaces and create a usable entry and focal point
to the home.
