The Simple Delta Cottage
is believed to date back to 1875 and is rumored to be the oldest
structure in Sacramento. The goal was to save it from demolition. The
property had been vacant for 10 years. There were seven sidings on the
building from various "remudelings" which had transpired over the last
124 years. In order to have legal head clearance downstairs, the home
had to be raised 10". This created the challenge of having the front
stairs comply with current building codes. All these hurdles were
overcome and the project was completed ahead of schedule.
