The clients were seeking
a more livable, inviting space to spend time and entertain. Since the
home was in an historic district, any updates that were visible from the
exterior had to fit the strict guidelines of the district. Since a
bedroom was added, an egress window was required. This was solved with a
stacked stone window well, with a wrought iron protective railing around
it. The client wanted to retain the old gravity-fed steam heat system,
which had pipes less than 6’ from the floor. The solution was a pump
system terminating at a sump that would pump the condensation back to
the boiler. This removed all the low hanging pipes. The clients were
very happy with the results. In a neighborhood in which property runs
$350 per square foot, this remodel added great value at about $136 per
foot.
